I can so relate to your use of the non-traditional lullaby! My husband goes in for a whistled rendition of GnR's"Patience" (oh, to be able to whistle). I come from shall we say "earthier" stock...okay, my parents were hippies, you pried it from my lips! Yes, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel and the like. David Allen Coe is always good too. Whatever gets you through the night...

I joined a gym at the end of December, a Christmas gift to myself. Said gift came with a wicked benefit - free childcare! In four weeks I had gained 3 pounds. Oooops. Hope you are having better luck than I.

I'm with you. The Poose got his first "sensible" haircut... Maybe in 2008? Somewhere around 2 1/2. I'm sure he had his second one in March of 2009, and hasn't had one since. All the curls are back! We have a deal: as long as he will consent to washing of said curls 5-7 times per week, and daily brushing, they can stay as long as he likes them (or until the mullet look becomes unmistakable). I figure we can fight about his hair later. And yes, I saved a curl from his first haircut (which his Daddy and I did ourselves) with the date, so I actually would know when it happened. Even have a keepsake box to put it in...
Can't say I'm in that big a hurry for him to grow up. Thinking about putting a brick on his head to slow him down...

It is SO timely that you wrote this post. Today I am having that high school dilemma play out . . .

A friend from "back when" is in town and I'd really like to see her, but get the feeling that my existence means less to her than hers does to me. Awkward.
Facing the thoughts of rejection that stem from those times in my life.

ICK!

Thanks for giving me a good laugh about it all. I'll try not to dwell on what I did wrong, or why I'm not worthy of taking in air with the "other" people. :D

Glad to see you back! My boys got their first haircuts back in October at 20 months old and we kept all the hair for each in a ziploc bag along with their certificates. My brother still has the hair from his first haircut as a baby and he is now 32. For years it was kept in one of the plastic sheeting of his baby album and I always remembered it was a little creepy but a tradition I wished to continue with my own boys. Besides, that baby hair is so much nicer than anything that has grown out of his head in the last 30 years!
